Kotputli–Behror Emerges as a Sports Hub Under Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore

During the Rajasthan Assembly budget session, an important update came from the floor of the House—one that directly affects young athletes in the Kotputli–Behror region. Cabinet Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore presented a clear picture of how focused investment in sports infrastructure is already creating real results at the grassroots level.

A ₹4 Crore Indoor Sports Hall for Regular Training

Col. Rathore informed the Assembly that an indoor sports hall has been constructed at LBS College, Kotputli, with a cost of ₹4 crore, supported by the Central Government. This facility is not symbolic—it is fully functional.

Currently, the hall is used for:

  • Wrestling training

  • Badminton practice

Three wrestling coaches and one athletics coach have already been appointed, ensuring that athletes receive professional and continuous guidance.

Sports Facilities Beyond One Game

The LBS College campus has been developed as a multi-sport complex, offering:

  • Basketball courts

  • Volleyball facilities

  • Football ground

  • Athletics track

In addition, a sports training centre is operational at Mahatma Gandhi School, Behror, ensuring that students do not have to travel far to access basic training facilities.

20 Wrestlers at the National Level

One of the most significant outcomes highlighted in the Assembly was that 20 wrestlers from the Kotputli–Behror area are competing at the national level. This is a major achievement for a region outside major urban centres.

Col. Rathore acknowledged this success and credited consistent training facilities, coaching support, and local leadership for nurturing this talent.

Focus on Grassroots Sports Development

The Rajasthan government’s approach, as explained in the House, is step-by-step development. The focus is on:

  • Identifying talent early

  • Providing local infrastructure

  • Appointing qualified coaches

  • Creating a pathway from district to national competitions

This model ensures that talent is not limited by geography.

Why This Matters for Youth

For young people, especially from semi-urban and rural areas, access to sports infrastructure often decides whether talent grows or fades. Facilities like indoor halls and trained coaches give them:

  • Discipline and confidence

  • Opportunities beyond academics

  • Exposure to state and national platforms
